60-Idea Innovation Catalog for Orkla

Unlocking Growth Through Portfolio Strategy and Consumer Insights

FROM STRATEGY TO 60 NEW FOOD CONCEPTS

Following the development of Orkla Denmark’s new portfolio strategy, the next challenge was to turn strategic direction into tangible innovation opportunities.

The portfolio study had identified four strategic growth platforms based on changing consumer needs, emerging food trends, category dynamics and attractive demand spaces. Together, these platforms defined where Orkla Denmark had the strongest potential to create future growth.

The next step was clear: What should Orkla actually build to capture these opportunities?

CPH Strategy was therefore asked to translate the portfolio strategy into a strong innovation pipeline by developing 60 new food concepts, all directly linked to the findings and strategic opportunities identified in the portfolio study.

OUR APPROACH

Rather than starting with open-ended ideation, we used the portfolio strategy as the strategic framework for innovation.

Each of the four growth platforms became a defined innovation territory, ensuring that every new concept addressed a relevant consumer need and contributed to Orkla Denmark’s overall growth ambition.

The innovation process combined four key perspectives:

Consumer Needs
We explored evolving consumer behaviours, needs, consumption occasions and demand spaces to identify opportunities where Orkla could create greater relevance and value.

Food & Consumer Trends
We translated the most important emerging trends into concrete product opportunities, focusing on trends with the potential to drive meaningful and lasting changes in consumer behaviour.

Market & White Spaces
We identified unmet needs and underdeveloped market spaces across categories, looking beyond Orkla’s existing portfolio to uncover opportunities for category expansion and new propositions.

Strategic Fit
Every concept was assessed against the portfolio strategy and the four growth platforms to ensure a clear connection between consumer relevance, commercial opportunity and Orkla’s strategic strengths.

60 CONCEPTS ACROSS FOUR GROWTH PLATFORMS

Based on this strategic framework, we developed an innovation catalogue of 60 new food concepts distributed across the four growth platforms defined in the portfolio strategy.

The ambition was not simply to generate a high volume of ideas. It was to create strategically grounded concepts with a clear reason to exist.

Each concept translated an identified opportunity into a tangible product proposition, connecting:

Consumer need → Market opportunity → Strategic growth platform → Product concept

The concepts explored opportunities both within and beyond Orkla’s existing categories and brands, creating inspiration for brand extensions, new product platforms, category expansion and entirely new propositions.

This created a direct link between the high-level portfolio strategy and the future innovation pipeline.

RESULT

The project transformed Orkla Denmark’s portfolio strategy from a strategic framework into a concrete innovation roadmap.

With 60 strategically developed food concepts across four defined growth platforms, Orkla Denmark gained a strong pipeline of opportunities that could be evaluated, prioritized and further developed by the organisation.

More importantly, the project created a systematic approach to innovation where new ideas were not driven by trends or creativity alone, but by a combination of consumer needs, market potential, white spaces and strategic fit.

The result was a clear connection between insight, strategy and innovation — enabling Orkla Denmark to move from identifying where future growth could come from to defining what to build next.
